Spring Campout April 17 and 18

The spring campout that was originally going to be at Lake Georgetown has moved to Krause Springs.

Why?
The campout committee went to the actual site for the campout and discovered several issues:

  • The lake is really low (for those fisherman).
  • There is actually a huge RV park on the premises. The general concern is that most RVers are, well, you know, old people who probably go to bed at 6:00 p.m. and even worse, wake up at 4:00 a.m.!
  • Location of the park to "Sun City". Hard to look at the stars with the city lights.
  • New Where?
Krause Springs - a great place in Spicewood, Texas. Noted as possibly the most beautiful swimming hole in the state. About a 30 minute drive.

    Directions:
Krause Springs is west of Austin off of TX 71 and Spur 191 into Spicewood. Take Texas Highway 71 west from Austin, cross the Pedernales River, drive 7 miles, turn right on Spur 191 at the Exxon Station, right on County Road 404 and travel approximately one mile to the intersection of Burnet County Road 412 (a gravel road). Turn left and travel approximately 1/4 of a mile to the entrance to the Krause Springs Camping Area (you will see a sign on your left). For a map click here.

    Cost:
Tell 'em you’re with Pack 55 for the campout. See if that gets you anywhere. Seriously, we are working out the terms with them now.
Here is the catch. We do not have a designated campsite, nor does anyone else for that matter. First come, first serve. Sooooo, any of you scouters who want to do a 2 nighter, please go out Friday afternoon, stake out a good big (level) spot, and scatter your tents around so our group can have room.
It looks like at least two other Cub Scout Packs will be there as well so the earlier the better.

    Final notes:

  • Gates open at 9:00 a.m.,
  • People who run the place don’t like grouchy people,
  • Opie’s BBQ in Spicewood is really good,
  • Informative web site: http://www.texasoutside.com/kraussprings.htm . They don't have a web site..... they don't believe in computers.
  • Krause Springs is next to the Grelle Recreation Area, which has numerous hiking trails, swimming, and creeks.

  • We're gonna have fun, please plan to attend and please, leave the pets and electronics at home.
