Chili Pepper Campout - 2004
July 31 - August 1 - Bastrop State Park, Bastrop, TX

The Fall Campout starts on Saturday, July 31 at 12:00 PM and runs through 12:00 pm, Sunday, August 1, 2004 at Bastrop State Park.

Facilities in the campground at Bastrop include a swimming pool, bathrooms with showers, and a playground all within a few seconds walk of the tent sites. Sites have water but no electricity. Battery operated fans are encouraged. There are hiking trails leading off in about three directions from the tent area we are in. The pond is about a mile down the road, a bit farther if you hike the trail. No swimming is allowed on the pond, though the park does rent canoes. In addition, near the entrance, there is a large playscape for the little ones. Be sure to visit the Texas State Park Store.

There are snakes in the park (all four types of poisonous snakes found in Texas) so please advise caution when tromping through the woods.

Pack 55 follows BSA swim safety rules. Since there is a swimming pool with lifeguard we're covered on supervision. In the pool, boys should swim with a buddy and Pack adults should be present and watchful. No lake swimming, canoeing or boating is allowed as we will not be set up to provide proper BSA safe swim procedures. (Besides, we have the pool!) Swimming pools floats are allowed after belt-loop testing.

Please RSVP with your den leader - give us your car make, model and license plate # and you'll be on the rapid check-in list. Pack will pay the fee for those on the list.

No pets are allowed. BSA rules state that throwing items (i.e. water balloons, etc.) is strictly prohibited.

Directions: To reach the park, travel 2 miles northwest of Smithville on State Highway 71 to FM 153, then north on 153 for .5 mile to enter Park Road 1. It is about 50 miles from Bridge Point. There is a Brookshire grocery store just down the road into Smithville for last minute needs. Downtown Smithville has a street full of antique shops just two miles away. The park gate is open from 8am to 10pm. Download Map
